OUR PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION
The basic premise of Eagle School is that all knowledge, wisdom, and understanding comes from the one true God. We, therefore, desire to raise up the standard of God in education in ways that will glorify Him and bring enlightenment, strength, and wisdom to the students.
The staff of ES embraces the reality that God’s purposes, precepts, and principles for training and instruction are contained in His Word, the Bible. All genuine truth can be traced to the creator, God. Science, History, Math, Art, Literature, and Music originate from God as much as religion. In cooperation with the home and church, we seek to develop a love for God and a respect for the Scriptures that will cause the students to have a far greater understanding of life, relationships, responsibilities, and expectations beyond the classroom setting. This philosophy means we focus on training in relational growth and moral responsibility as well as teaching the students academics. A well-trained child will learn more quickly and enjoy learning more.
The Eagle School philosophy of education specifically seeks to see a strong development in each student in three major areas:
Academic Excellence
The intention of Eagle School is for each graduate to have a maximum number of academic options upon graduation. This may include the college or university of choice, additional technical training, or the end of formal education. Eagle School is not as concerned with the national average of educational performance as much as the level of excellence each child can achieve. Every child will be considered individually and encouraged to go as far as they are able regardless of how well other students are achieving academically.
We consider it very important for the students to understand the concepts in their academics in addition to being able to recall information from memory for a test. Instilled concepts will allow the students to retain and apply what they have learned in life situations as well as drawing upon the resources of memorized material. Retained knowledge plus utilitarian purpose will support and encourage the academic excellence we seek to impart to the students.
Life Skills
All that we learn must have relevant meaning to us in some form or we are robbed of our motivation to learn. It is the intention of Eagle School to give several expressions of application in learning to the students. The teachers will focus on various ways the student can utilize what they learn. There will be some activities and basic skills taught at Eagle School as well as on-site exposure and participation in various projects not initiated by Eagle School. These vocational expressions are intended to cause the student to draw upon their learning in many areas (math, science, literature, and art) and apply that learning in every day usage.
Godly Wisdom
Today, there is a desperate need for young people to be rooted and grounded in their lives. There are many opportunities to make decisions that will ultimately cause them harm or good. The objectives of ES are to help students find the foundations they need to make wise and godly decisions now and later in life. Some of the foundational areas will include morality, treating others as you expect to be treated, work attitude, common-sense guidelines in stewardship, being trustworthy, using strengths to assist someone else in weakness, and relationships between God and man. Our desire goes beyond seeing graduates who are work ready. We want to have young people grow into adults who will be the kind of people others look to for wisdom and counsel. If followers of Jesus really are going to be salt and light, then these foundations are absolutely critical.
Ecclesiastes 4:12 states that “a cord of three strands is not easily broken.” In considering the 3 major areas of emphasis (academic excellence, life skills, and godly wisdom), our objective is to tie them together so the student will be able to proceed from their high school education with a strength and foundation that can be tested but not destroyed.
In addition to the three major areas of emphasis of ES that will be woven together for the strengthening of the students, we find another three-strand cord that must be woven. The HOME, the SCHOOL, and the CHURCH are three areas that need to be in agreement so a young person will have consistency in training and so each of these learning environments will support the other. It is, therefore, important for parents, as the decision-makers representing their children, to reinforce the standards of ES in the home and find that common thread of strength in the church setting. Each young person needs to have the support and strengthening of these three training institutions for the philosophy of ES to be fully effective.
